What computer equipment
is best suited for reuse?
Charitable donations of computer equipment that individuals or companies
would like to pass on directly to CompWhiz Computer Service, should generally
be no more than five years old, (in most cases) in working condition,
and Internet-capable. Up to five-year-old working laptops and laser
printers are in high demand, as are 17-inch or larger working monitors,
mice, keyboards, and cables.
Can my donations be
used as is or do they have to be refurbished or upgraded?
Almost all three-to-five-year-old working computers can be upgraded to
do the six things most people do with computers: Internet browsing,
e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and finances. We
often install bigger hard drives, more RAM, and often a network card for
computers going to charities or schools. With the economy the way it is
nowadays, some families are not able to buy a computer for their
children. Up to three-year-old working computers are generally useful
for this purpose and serve as training tools .
Can my
non-working computers serve as training
tools for students?
Yes. Your charitable donation to CompWhiz
Computer Service, may end up in a
school lab or community technology center somewhere in the community.
Several years ago, when we
owned CompWhiz.com, we built computers to give to needy children with
help from the Mayor's office as well as our local church. We have
decided to start this worthwhile project again, so if you have old
computer parts laying around that you don't know what to do with or how
to dispose of, consider donating those parts to us. We can refurbish
those parts and help to make a child's day and their education a little
brighter.
All
parts can be put to good use. So please
keep us
in mind when you
toss that old hunk of junk out.
